Comprehensive Plan
Review |

The City of Westport is
currently undergoing a review and update of its
Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Grays Harbor County
does not plan under the State Growth Management
Act (GMA) therefore the requirements of that Act
do not apply, including mandatory reviews and
approval by both a Growth Hearings Board and the
State of Washington. The City of Westport is
required, by RCW 35A.63.060 to develop a
comprehensive plan. Subsection .061 of that RCW
lists the elements that are required to be
included in the plan, which are land use and
circulation. Subsection 062. lists the optional
elements which are: conservation, open space
park and recreation, transportation, public use,
public utilities, redevelopment and renewal,
urban design, other elements determined by the
legislative body, and a solar energy element.
Subsections 0.70 through 0.80 establish the
procedure for development and review or the
comprehensive plan and its effect when enacted.
There is no requirement in the RCW's to update
the comprehensive plan. The City is completing a
voluntary review and update to bring the
comprehensive plan both up to date since its
enactment in 1998, and to ensure that it sets
the correct vision for future development within
the city. There is no set timetable for
completion of this review. The planning
commission will review the chapters of the
current plan at their regular meetings and
potentially hold additional meetings if
necessary. Notices will be published for any
special meetings. Once an update has been
developed, it will be forwarded to the council
for review and adoption. This site will be
updated regularly with schedules, documents, and
additional information.

will come up that you can choose from and
navigate through.
Also for a general search of planning topics;
Select "MRSC index" at the right of the top

Washington State Department of Commerce
Select "Local Government and Infrastructure"
in the gray bar just under the agency logo,
then select "Growth Management", then select

Growth Management Act, so many of the issues
related to GMA do not apply. The basic
information about comprehensive planning is
helpful.
